West Coast Equine Clinic offers on farm and in clinic pre-purchase exams. A pre-purchase exam starts with obtaining a thorough medical history from the seller. A thorough physical exam of the entire horse is performed including dental and ophthalmic exams, palpation of limbs, neck and back and response to hoof testers. The horse’s gait is analyzed on hard and soft ground, in straight lines and on circles. Flexion/stress tests are performed on all limbs. Digital x-rays, ultrasound, endoscope and blood work may be performed if considered necessary or is requested.
Please call us if you are considering purchasing a horse as we can advise you about what to look for from a health and lameness perspective, particularly if you are thinking about purchasing out of our area.
